| I started working with my librarian last year in March. I went to her asking what books we have by a particular author...she was thrilled. I wish I had went to her earlier. She was so helpful. She pulled tons of books, and wants to do more. "Nobody ever asks me for help!" Most teachers look at the specialists as their prep period...My librarian and I had so much fun together. What an amazing resource. |

| Your message confirms what so many teachers don't take advantage of - their librarian!! I am always researching ideas for my teachers to use, and just a handful actually ask for my assistance. As a librarian, these specialists have been trained in ways to promote reading across the curriculum, and all it takes is "one good book" for a child to get hooked on reading! I am always surprised that many of our 5th and 6th graders love the nonfiction and biography books, and the amazing thing is that it makes them love the "learning process" and allows them to peak their curiosity in other areas of the curriculum. As we all know, children love a good challenge, and I always "make a big deal" out of the student that is looking for books based on part of the curriculum that they are currently studying. Also, when I bring the class back from my library, I am always sure to inform the teacher of this and let the whole class how proud I am of all of them for being interested in doing more research! Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions. |
