How do I locate and determine grade level reading/books?
I just got hired as a seventh and eighth grade reading teacher. I worked with 9th and 11th English for my student teaching, so I am not really sure what books I should have for my classroom reading center. What are some appropriate grade level books? I'd like to give a variety of topics, as well as some books that are a little easier and some that are a little harder. Any suggestions? |

Hi Michelle,
Welcome to middle school!
Some very popular titles for grades 6-8 are:
The Giver Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry The Cay Across Five Aprils
for lower level readers, you might try:
Freak the Mighty Maniac Magee Bud, not Buddy Hatchet
There are companion exercises for these novels, along with a free teacher's guide, at my web site, grammargator
Good luck!

| You can try doing a google search for summer reading list 7th grade. Also try the scholastic website they have books lists. Also try the public library, they might be able to provide you with a list of 7th/8th grade books. |
