Does it help during the job search if you've earned your masters degree? Should someone having trouble finding leads be better off using that time to work towards a masters and sub? _____________________ Teacher Storehouse, Toon University |

| I think you need to look a couple of years into the future. If you think things will be looking up in the hiring dept. in a couple of years then maybe this would be a good time to get your masters if you're having trouble finding work anyway. |

| I work in an alternative certification program in Texas (transitioning to teaching in the fall), and most of our teachers do NOT have a master's degree (just a bachelor's). It hasn't seemed to impact the hiring process here. As long as you are "highly qualified" under NCLB and have a heart for teaching, it's not too difficult to find a job. BUT you have to know your stuff and be student-centered and be a master manager of your classroom to be hired (even if you haven't taught before, you have to project the importance of classroom management and student-centered classroom activities in the interview process). |

| Just some food for thought...Some districts still pay for your masters...mine doesn't, but many around here do. Should you wait until your are hired incase your district pays? |
